I got the chance to attend IGELs DisruptEUC conference in Nashville, Tn. this week. I enjoyed the chance to catch up with many of my industry peers and even spent some time with someone I have known for over 20 years. I always enjoy this perk of attending these conferences. The networking opportunities you gain at these conferences are invaluable.
At DisruptEUC, we heard from Industry leaders in the End User Computing community. Microsoft’s Windows Virtual Desktop was the talk of the conference with Keynotes from Scott Manchester and Christiaan Brinkhoff. We heard from Jed Ayers and Matthias Haas about IGEL and the how the company was doing. Nabeel Youakim told us about what Citrix had to offer as well. He talked about many topics but Citrix Managed Desktops and Workspace were two of my favorites. It’s also always good to hear the state of the industry from experts like Mark Lockwood.
The breakout sessions were insightful and entertaining. Having recently moved to Chattanooga to work for Conversant Group, it was great to get to attend my first Nashville CUGC meeting. Patrick Coble is always informative and entertaining. Standing room only in his session as usual. Took a deep dive in to Citrix Managed Desktop with James Hsu. Then I heard from Adam Lotz on what was new in Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
Wednesday morning’s Ted Talk by Pete Tapley wasn’t slow and drawn out on purpose. The healthcare panel of Nathan Bohanan, Nicholas Burton, Alan Caruana, Jason Greene, and Brian Barnes was very informative. We could not find anyone who could say they had a bad experience with IGEL. Then we moved on to breakout sessions from DJ Eshelman, and Wes Dobry, I ended the second day with a discussion about a 30,000 user Horizon View deployment led by Dane Young.
There were many vendors present showing off their products and what was new. I was most interested in the demo given by Tehama. Their secure SaaS platform was very intriguing. The way it can handle quickly provisioning a secure functional room with DaaS and connectivity is impressive. The auditing and security are very impressive especially when you consider the ease of deployment. It was also great to catch up with Jaymes Davis.
All in all it was a productive and enjoyable event. I am looking forward to attending again in the future! You can check out a great video compilation here.
